FAQs
We’ve gathered answers to the most common questions about classes, scheduling, and what to expect. Use this section as a quick guide to help you decide if a class is right for you and to make your experience as smooth as possible.
About the Classes
Do I need any special equipment or experience?
No special equipment is needed – just comfortable clothing and a yoga mat or towel. No prior movement experience is required. The movements are gentle and accessible to all fitness levels.
What if I'm not flexible or haven't exercised in years?
Perfect! Somatic movement isn’t about flexibility or fitness – it’s about awareness and control. The movements are slow, small, and completely within your comfort zone. Many clients find this approach more accessible than traditional exercise.
How are online classes different from in-person sessions?
Online classes focus on group learning and general movement patterns, while in-person sessions (coming soon) will offer individualized assessment and hands-on guidance. Both are effective – online classes are convenient and cost-effective, while in-person sessions provide more personalized attention.
What happens during a typical class?
Classes begin with gentle awareness exercises, progress through specific movement sequences targeting common tension patterns, and end with integration time. You’ll learn movements you can use throughout your day for ongoing relief.
How many people are in each class?
Classes are limited to 9 participants to ensure everyone receives individual attention and can ask questions.
About Results and Expectations
How do I know if this is right for me?
If you’re dealing with chronic tension, pain, or stress that affects your daily life, and you’re interested in a gentle, natural approach to relief, somatic movement may be helpful. We offer free 15-minute consultations to discuss your specific situation.
How quickly will I see results?
Many people notice some relief during their first class. However, lasting change typically develops over several weeks of consistent practice. Remember, you’re retraining patterns that may have been present for years.
Will this help my specific condition?
Somatic movement is effective for many chronic pain conditions including neck and shoulder tension, lower back pain, headaches, and stress-related muscle tightness. During our consultation, we can discuss your specific situation.
Is this safe if I have injuries or health conditions?
The movements are very gentle and you remain in complete control at all times. However, please consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any new movement practice, especially if you have specific injuries or health concerns.
What if I can't do a particular movement?
Everything is adaptable. You’ll learn to work within your current range of motion and comfort level. The goal is awareness and gentle progress, not perfect execution.
Class Details and Logistics
What technology do I need for online classes?
You’ll need a computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet connection and the ability to run Zoom. We’ll help you with any technical setup questions before your first class.
Can I take classes if I don't live in your area?
Absolutely! Our online classes welcome participants from anywhere. The Chicagoland location only applies to future in-person services.
What's your cancellation policy?
For single classes, we require 24-hour notice for refunds. Class packages offer more flexibility with make-up sessions when possible.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently, services are private pay. However, some clients have been reimbursed through HSA/FSA accounts or flexible insurance plans. Check with your provider about coverage for movement education.
